‘Gary G’ is the owner and president of Upstate Irrigation Systems, LLC dba Irrigation Tech. He is responsible for managing and financing the business, human resources, and marketing. He also prepares permit applications and engineering reports, and assists with irrigation product selection, installation drawings, proposals, and installation scheduling.
Gary grew up in West Irondequoit High School where he was active in scouting, sports, student government, and class affairs. He earned an architecture degree from Cornell – working as a carpenter’s and electrician’s helper along the way, became a licensed architect after a required three-year internship, and a dozen years later earned an master’s degree in engineering management from Drexel.
During his early career, Gary co-owned architectural and homebuilding firms, before moving on to facilities architecture and process engineering, product development, marketing, estimating and sales, and business development and management roles with Armstrong World Industries, The McGraw-Hill Companies, BuilderSupplyNet.com, the HIGH Companies, and US Concrete.
During his corporate career, Gary co-developed more than half a dozen domestically and internationally patented technologies and products used in commercial buildng construction. After leaving the corporate world, Gary and his wife Nan, bought The Goddard School in Bushnell’s Basin. Gary also served three years as Chair of the Engineering Technologies Department at Monroe Community College where he currently teaches an adjunct instructor.
In his ‘spare’ time over the past several decades, Gary was chairman of the former Otetiana Council’s Camp Cutler committee and Beaver Weekend, founded a career-oriented Exploring post in science and engineering in Lancaster, PA, served as an officer for chapters of the American Institute of Architects and the Product Development and Management Association, chaired the board of a large non-profit serving people with disabilities in 33 Pennsylvania Counties, co-founded an international precast concrete industry technology licensing and marketing franchise, served in various officer roles, including President, for a chapter of the Precast Concrete Institute, built and oversaw the operation of a large public library, and was a Rotary Club member.
Gary married Nan in the ealry 1980s and they promptly moved into a little house on a tiny lot in Pittsford Village – but that was five houses ago. Today they have an adult son and daughter who are pursuing their own lives and careers here and abroad while here at home they enjoy their big Chihuahua, Dante, as well as the wildflowers and abundant wildlife on their property in Pittsford.
